Now that digital cameras are around, it is very easy to take photos. With today’s cameras capable of producing high-resolution images, automatic focus, high-shutter configuration and all, creating beautiful, clear and highly detailed images are very easy. This is aside from the convenience brought about by Photoshop and computers to photography these days. Indeed there is much improvement to the way we take photos now than we used to do before the digital age.
Back then, we use analog cameras with film as printing medium, which is then developed on photo paper by chemical process. A mistake in taking, handling and processing of a photo can easily result to the image having off colors, misaligned focus, oversaturation, blurring and other optical distortions. During those times when clarity and resolution was the goal, such photos are considered as something “badly captured”. Nowadays when everyday can make clear, realistic and detailed shots, photographers are revisiting the flaws of photography of the old and found art and beauty on the way they appear and this is how vintage photography, aptly popularized by Lomographic Society makes a comeback.
The term “lomo” nowadays does not only refer to those photos captured using Russian made lomo cameras but applies to photography taken using ordinary cameras as well. The distinctive characteristics of Lomo photography are overly saturated colors, blurred and optically distorted captures, off filter exposures and more. These attributes ignore the rules which are considered as good practices in traditional photography. Indeed Lomogprahy as an art encourages spontaneous “hip-taken” images without necessarily knowing beforehand what you have captured on film. Well, how do these photos look like like? Some photographers have great examples, and it is worth the time to see them and appreciate the art and beauty that they have. Take a look at these nice examples of lomography photos and enjoy!
