Vexel, from the word vector and pixel, is a style or technique in graphic illustration that uses an entirely pixel based form or raster, but mimics the appearance of vector based graphics. Being a style that appears like a vector, vexels have the characteristic feature of sharp-edged lines and areas of flat colour or smooth gradient fills.
As a digital graphic style, vexels can be made in Photoshop, in vector based Illustrator as well as in other graphic softwares.
